School Levy
Dear Parents
I am writing to ask you for this year's contribution to the School Levy. This is an annual payment which most of you will remember from previous years is £10.00 per family.
As you may know Catholics have always contributed 15% to the cost of maintenance, repairs and improvements of their schools in return for the freedom to appoint staff who will support the Catholic ethos of the school, and the right to teach Religious Education according to Catholic tradition. Historically the local parish has paid this from contributions collected at church services.
Numbers attending church services have declined and so has the amount raised each week from this source. While the parish still contributes to the School Levy, parents of children now benefiting from the education provided by Catholic schools are also asked to help.
Throughout the Archdiocese schools have been asked to raise the equivalent of £10.00 per family as their contribution to the Archdiocesan Schools Building Fund. This actually works out at only about 12 pence per week for each child at the school. In the past we have had a very good response from parents in this matter.
As the school continues to make improvements, I would like to send our School Levy contribution to the Archdiocese promptly. Therefore, could I ask you to contribution your payment via Iris Parentmail. This will be linked to your oldest child’s name if you have more than one child attending school.
If this represents a difficulty for any family please see me privately so that you are not sent reminders.
Yours sincerely
Mr D MacAreavy
