Friday Update 25.11.2225 November 2022 (by stjohnb) |
Dear Parents and Carers
A very difficult week weather wise, with some horrendous rain and wind, but inside our school building the industrious atmosphere of happy hard-working children continues. Our teachers have been moderating children’s writing in all year groups and we are pleased with their work although clearly there will be a range of standards within each class.
I have been interviewing a number of children about their reading provision within the school and again it is most encouraging that they see this as an enjoyable as well as an important aspect of their learning which helps them in all aspects of the curriculum.
Our girls played a football match last Friday against St Gregory’s and although they all played well and created some good chances they were unable to find the back of the net. St Gregory’s were the eventual winners but again Mr Parry was pleased with their effort. Well done girls, there will be many more matches for you in the New Year.
Our boys’ game against St Gregory’s had to be postponed due to appalling weather but we are pleased that we have been able to arrange a game against Green Park which will take place this Monday after school. This will be the last game before we break for Christmas, fingers crossed for kind weather..
The children are busy rehearsing for their Nativity Plays and Carol Concert and I hope you have the dates in your diaries and are looking forward to these festive events as much as I am.
A huge thank you for your overwhelming generosity, we have collected a staggering 145 Christmas Shoe Boxes which were collected yesterday morning. I truly believe that the children in our school understand that this act of selfless kindness represents the true meaning of Christmas and knowing that their kindness has changed a child’s life for the better, if only for a short while, is an important part of what a St John Bosco child is.
Another thank you for your kindness in donating coats which will be sent to the Whitechapel Centre in Liverpool and distributed to homeless and needy members of our wider community. A great big thank you to Mrs Brooker for initiating this worthwhile act of kindness. If you are having a clear out and find any coats that you no longer use we are collecting them in the area by the school office.
Our World Cup Raffle continues to grow and thank you for donations and prizes. Any child may bring in money to buy a ticket or tickets throughout the duration of the World Cup Festival - £1.00 per ticket and they can be purchased daily from Charlie in Year 6.
Our school librarians have asked if you can check to see if you have any outstanding school library books and return them to school with your child. These books have a barcode in the front with the school name underneath it.
We continue to have issues returning children’s clothing that has no name. Please can you check this weekend and make sure all garments are clearly labelled.
The governors would respectfully like to remind parents that earrings and other jewellery are not permitted in school. A wrist watch is acceptable but they ask that you remove your child’s earrings as this has never been a part of our uniform. There have been a number of accidents during PE and play time where children have been hurt as a result of wearing earrings. I would like to thank you in advance that this request can be carried out.
I find it hard to believe that there are only three and half weeks remaining and hope that the children enjoy this special and exciting time.
Yours sincerely
Mr D MacAreavy - Headteacher
