Friday Update 06.05.226 May 2022 (by stjohnb) |
Dear Parents and Carers
Another kind week, weather wise, which helps to make school feel more and more normal. The children’s play times and lunch times have seen them enjoying all of our outdoor facilities and this in turn helps them within their classrooms as they certainly are able to burn off excess energy. All classes have reported that the children are really enjoying their lessons, working hard and producing excellent work. The school library which is now fully established is being well used and it is encouraging to see an increasing number of children develop a real love for reading. This new edition to our schools’ resources has proved most successful and we shall look for ways to further develop the impact that it has.
Year 6 have finally completed their preparations for next week’s National Tests and they have clearly benefited from the support that has been put in place. We all agree that we have seen a really positive engagement and the children have actually enjoyed the final practice tests that took part this week. We have been able to give feedback to individual children and give them valuable coaching points that will help them now and in the future. May I remind all year 6 children that they must be in their class at 8.30am each morning so that they will fully benefit from the planned preparations before each day’s tests. Past experience has informed us that this approach really works, settles the children and increases their chances of achieving their potential.
Tomorrow we celebrate the sacrament of First Holy Communion with our year 4 children and their families and we ask that you spare a few moments to think about them at this particularly happy time when they can finally enjoy a more traditional celebration as we continue to pull away from the restrictions that have made life so challenging throughout the past two years.
After school clubs are enjoyed by hundreds of children each week and as a school we are still pleased to be able to offer most of them as part of our children’s extended curriculum. I am sure you will agree the school grounds are simply blossoming as the trees and flowers open up as we approach summer. We are looking to develop our children’s gardening area and ask that anyone who would be interested, step forward.
Congratulations to our Girls Football Team who played against Northway last Friday, the weather was beautiful and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon was had by all. The girls' supportive behaviour towards each other was impeccable and they went home to enjoy their weekend after scoring 5 goals and winning the match. Yesterday our boys travelled in the minibus to play Holy Rosary in an extremely competitive match. Once again, their supportive attitude left me feeling extremely proud and although we lost 1:0 they played some extremely entertaining football. We wish our girls all the best for their next game which is tonight at home to Melling Primary School.
Can I ask that any outstanding monies for M&M Theatre Company – The Hobbit and any trip monies be paid promptly as this helps us in the school office.
Please send your Queen’s Jubilee Picnic Box Day on 27th May – all orders and choice of sandwich need to be returned by Tuesday 10th May for kitchen ordering.
Yours sincerely
Mr D MacAreavy - Headteacher
